Hi guys, hope you are doing well! Have you ever heard to talk about a minimalist lifestyle? I am not talking about minimalist décor, but in a mindset changing, where the max in to consume less, however, with quality, and this manner, to be happier; at least it is what preach those who are adept of this way to live.
Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus have been friends since childhood, from humility origin, that have fought a lot until reaching a good financial situation, they have achieved the American dream, but they have realized that instead of happiness, their lives were full of suffering, deceptions, and many worries. From this perception, they have made the inverse path and were making themselves free of excess and adopting a simpler life, valuing people and moments rather than things.
Millburn and Nicodemus have created the site The Minimalists and traveled the world promoting their life philosophy. They are not alone in this journey, there are many gurus, books, and documentaries about the theme, The Minimalists: Less is Now, available on Netflix, is one of them.
What the minimalism is
By that I have researched, there is not a format. Each person makes your own choices, in the essence, the idea is to reduce the exaggerated consumption and waste, by occupying our lives and spaces that this detachment has provoked, whit that we love and add value to our existence.
According to the supporters, living with the necessary generates freedom feelings because when we accumulate things, we make our lives complicated, after all, by the time we acquire assets and objects, they get demanding time from us. It is like to have a beach house, even using few times a year, it demands maintenance and expenses all the time, we need to pay tax and make repairs, being that we could simply rent a house to the vacations.
Do realize that minimalism is not about money, but simplicity. A minimalist person also consumes but does not buy in excess, furthermore, prioritizes those items with better quality. Before acquiring something, they think is they really need that, which is the benefits of that, if it will bring happiness or if it will be just one more object which will get occupying space and accumulating dust.
When consuming less, automatically we spend less money, choosing consciously makes people learn how to give more value to the money.
Famous minimalists
Virtual minimalism
Have you ever stopped to think how much time we lose deleting email marketing that we have never even opened? And the number of times we are interrupted by notification on the mobile, that only deviate our attention, and in the reality, it does not aggregate anything to our life?
Turn this notification off, get out from these lists of email marketing, delete an app that we never use, reduce the number of people we follow in social media, are minimalist attitudes, after all, they will generate a saving of time, and our attention will not be deviated in an unnecessary way. With this, we can be more present and create closer online relationships.
I do not wish with this post to try to indoctrinate you, my intention is just to make a reflection on the choices we do diary in our lives because to consume in excess will not complete us, it makes bad to the planet. The relations with people who we love, and the experiences we live are that, in fact, aggregate value to our existence; and, in my opinion, it is what really matters.
What is your opinion about that?
